Toyota agent in Saudi Arabia to recall 20,000 cars

22 Feb 2010

(MENAFN) Toyota Motors’ agent in Saudi Arabia Abdul Latif Jameel Co (ALJ) will recall more than 20,000 cars across the kingdom to fix a faulty accelerator problem, Arab News reported.

ALJ has told the Ministry of Commerce and Industry it will begin its recall of two models of Toyota cars, the Avalon sedan and Sequoia sport utility vehicle, to make sure they were safe to drive, the newspaper said.

The company will begin a maintenance campaign to install a small precision-cut steel reinforcement bar into the accelerator pedal assembly of 14,561 Avalon cars manufactured between January 2005 and January 2010 and 6,222 Sequoia models manufactured between November 2008 and January 2010.

Saudi Arabia’s Consumer Protection Association has for weeks been calling on authorities to force ALJ to recall and check in cars it sold locally.
