Saudi Arabia plans nuclear energy centre

18 Apr 2010

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia said that it would establish a scientific center for civilian nuclear and renewable energy, in order to meet the rising demand for energy, SPA reported.

The center will be named after Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah, and will be headed by former Trade Minister, Hashem Bin Abdullah Yamani. The center will be set up in the Saudi capital Riyadh, but the project’s timeframe was not disclosed.

Top oil exporter Saudi Arabia is the Middle East’s largest economy; however, the UAE was the first Gulf Arab country to take the nuclear route, to meet rising electricity demand for its fast-growing population.
