(MENAFN) Morocco’s High Commission for Planning (HCP) said that the kingdom?s first quarter unemployment rate stood at 10 percent, against 9.6 percent in the same period last year, Morocco Business reported.

According to the HCP, the jobless rate reached 14.7 percent in urban areas and 4.6 percent in the rural ones. The active population aging 15 and above reached 11,444,000, a rise of 1 percent compared to the first quarter of 2009.

The HCP’s statement also said that a total of 68,000 job opportunities were created between the first quarter of 2009 and that of 2010 (61,000 in urban areas and 7000 in the rural ones).

In a recent survey, the HCP found that most Moroccan households are deeply pessimistic about the perspectives of the Moroccan job market, doubting unemployment would register a significant decrease.
